Will and Boonstra win opening doubles match

ATHENS, Ga. – Freshman Allie Will continued her march through the 64-player women’s singles bracket and she and doubles partner Marrit Boonstra won their first doubles match Thursday at the NCAa Division I Tennis Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the University of Georgia campus.

Will, the eighth-ranked singles player in the nation, scored a 6-2, 6-1 victory over UCLA’s Andrea Remynse and then later in the day combined with Boonstra to defeat Michigan’s Whitney Taney and Rika Tatsuno, 6-3, 6-4.

Will, whose 26-match winning streak ended in Florida’s 4-3 loss to Stanford in the team championship match, improved to 48-4 and was scheduled to play Georgia’s Chelsey Gullickson, ranked No. 12, in the Round of 16 Friday.

Willl and Boonstra return to the courts following Will’s single match to play Stetson’s Carolina de los Santos and Valentina Galbarini. Boonstra is 74-21 in doubles matches during her career, including a 23-3 mark when paired with Will, who is 36-6 on the doubles court.

Florida’s other doubles team of freshman Lauren Embree and senior Anastasia Revzina weren’t as fortunate Thursday. California’s No. 9-ranked team of Mari Andersson and Jana Juricova beat the Gators, 6-7 (2-7), 7-5, 6-1. The loss ended the Florida career of Revzina, who finished with a 99-24 record in doubles play. Embree, who played with various partners this season, concluded her doubles play with a 37-7 record.
