GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Head coach Buddy Alexander announced the 2012-13 schedule for the University of Florida’s men’s golf team on Tuesday, August 21.

“We are very excited about this season’s schedule,” Alexander said. “The fields in these events feature some of the toughest teams in the country. It is a tremendous challenge for us and we are looking for to it.”

Alexander’s Gators will open their season at the Kiawah Invitational. The three-day event begins on Sept. 9 and will be played at the The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island, host of the 2012 PGA Championship. Last season, UF recorded its first tournament win in Kiawah Island, winning The Bake at The Ocean Course.

UF will have its annual Gator Golf Day on Friday, Sept. 21. The team will recognize the 1993 national championship team at the event.

Florida will then travel to Chicago and Birmingham for its next two tournaments. In the Windy City, the Gators will play in the Olympia Fields Invitational from Sept. 30 – Oct. 2. This will mark the fourth-straight year the Gators have participated in the event at Olympia Fields Country Club. The Jerry Pate Invitational in Birmingham will take place from Oct. 15-16 at the Old Overton Golf Club.

The team will wrap up its fall season at the Islworth Invitational inOrlando. Like the Olympia Fields Invitational, UF will be participating in the event at Isleworth Country Club for the fourth-consecutive season. The tournament will take place from Oct. 21-23.

To open the team’s spring season, Florida will serve as the host of the Gator Invitational at the Mark Bostick Golf Course. UF’s only home tournament of the season will be from Feb.9-10. UF is looking to get back on top at its home course after having its streak of eight-consecutive Gator Invitational team titles broken last season.

The Gators will then travel east to the John Hayt Invitational in Ponte Vedra. From Feb. 24-26, the team will attempt to tackle the Sawgrass Country Club, which hosted The Players Championship from 1977-1981.

Florida’s final three events of the spring will be the S.H. Collegiate Masters in Las Vegas, Chris Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Ga., and then the Gary Koch Invitational in Tampa. This will mark the second year in-a-row that UF will play in all of these tournaments.

UF will then begin postseason play with the SEC Championship in St. Simons Island, Ga. From Apr. 19-21, the team will look to capture its 16th conference title at the Seaside Golf Club.

If selected by the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Committee, the Gators will participate in the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championships. The tournament begins with regional play. Florida has advanced to regionals every year since the inception of regional play in 1989. Play will be from May 16-18.

The Gators will look to extend its streak of 12 straight appearances at the NCAA Championships with a trip to Atlanta. From May 28 – June 2, the Capital City Club Crabapple Course will host the national championship.

Coming off an impressive 2011-12 season, the Gators return a strong lineup for the 2012-13 season. Leading the way for Florida will be the All-American duo of Tyler McCumber (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) and T.J. Vogel (Cooper City, Fla.).
