Rain delays Florida State Relays

TALLAHASSEE – All-day rain cancelled the second day of competition at the 30th annual Florida State Relays Friday. Rain also affected Thursday’s first day of the competition. The meet is scheduled to continue Saturday morning at 9:30 at the Mike Long Track.

On Thursday, freshman Fidela James of Jacksonville turned in a personal best in the women’s hammer throw with a heave of 150 feet, 3 inches. The throw was good for third place for James, who last weekend at the UCF Black and Gold Challenge notched an NCAA regional qualifying mark in the women’s shot put.

Ryan Troy of Gainesville was the only other Florida athlete in action Thursday, finishing the first day of the decathlon competition with 2,695 points, good for eighth place through five events. Troy completed his first three events – the 100 meters, the long jump and the shot put – before a storm cell moved through the area. The final two events – the high jump and 400 meters – were contested early Thursday evening.
