No. 5 Florida soccer team visits No. 17 Duke

The No. 5 Florida soccer team continues its stretch of five-straight road matches with a visit to No. 17 Duke Friday. Match time between Florida (6-0) and Duke (5-1-1) is set for 8:45 p.m. at Koskinen Stadium in Durham, N.C. The game will be telecast on the Fox Soccer Channel.

Last year, the Gators claimed a 2-1 win over Duke at the James G. Pressly Stadium. Florida scored first with a goal from Lindsay Thompson in the 42nd minute, but the Blue Devils’ Chelsea Canepa tied the match just over two minutes later. Brooke Thigpen used her first collegiate game-winning goal to put Florida ahead in the 64th minute.

This match is the second of three consecutive road meetings versus Atlantic Coast Conference opponents. Last Friday, the Gators left Tallahassee with a 2-1 overtime victory at then No. 10 Florida State. Sophomore McKenzie Barney put in the golden goal just 15 seconds into overtime action.

In last weekend’s action, then No. 15 Duke tied Florida International 0-0 in double overtime. On Sunday, Duke turned in a 1-0 victory over Yale. The Blue Devils extended their scoreless streak to 395.52 minutes last Sunday, which spans the last five matches.
