Lady Gators third at BYU’s Dixie Classic

ST. GEORGE, Utah — The Florida women’s golf team got off to a strong start in the Brigham Young Dixie Classic, ending the first day of the competition in third place after rounds of 300 and 312 for a 612 (+36) total.

Denver University totaled 579 (+3) for its two rounds. The Pioneers are 28 strokes ahead of second-place Colorado State and Florida is another five strokes back. The two-day tournament ends today.

Freshman Andrea Watts of Bradenton shot rounds of 74 and 75 to lead the Gators. Her 149 total is tied for seventh individually. In her opening round, she overcame a triple bogey and bogey on consecutive holes with four birdies over her final eight holes.

Sophomore Jessica Yadloczky is tied for 13th place after totaling 152 on rounds of 73 and 79. Freshman Evan Jensen shot 156 after rounds of 80-76. Redshirt sophomore Nicole Schachner is tied for 40th at 161 after rounds of 79 and 82. Lauren Uzelatz was at 163 (tied for 47th) after following her career-best 74 with a second round of 89.
