Florida’s Caroline Hitimana downed Duke’s Ester Goldfeld in the Freeman Memorial Championships consolation singles finals at the Fertitta Tennis Complex at UNLV.
Hitimana gutted out a 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (10-4) victory to earn her second career singles championship. Her last singles title came when she won the Flight 3A draw of the SEC Coaches Fall Classic in 2010 fall.
Teammate Alex Cercone was triumphant against UNLV’s Alexsandra Josifoska, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2, in an additional match.
The top-ranked Gators will hit the courts again on Jan. 25 for their home opener against Troy at 3 p.m. at Linder Stadium at the Ring Tennis Complex.
