Florida soccer team visits LSU in Thursday match

The No. 12 Florida soccer team begins its final full week of Southeastern Conference action Thursday when it visits Western Division leader Louisiana State at 8 p.m. Every SEC team will play a home and an away match during this final full week of league action. Florida returns home to play host to Arkansas for its final home appearance on Sunday.

Florida (12-2-2, 6-1-1 SEC) used a pair of goals in each half to post a 4-0 win over LSU (6-6-4, 3-2-3 SEC) when the teams met in Gainesville in 2009. McKenzie Barney scored the first and final goals of the match, with Sarah Chapman and Brooke Thigpen also turning in goals.

Three different Gators contributed the six goals scored in Florida’s two home wins versus SEC Eastern Division rivals last weekend. Florida opened the weekend Friday with a 4-2 win over Tennessee. Gator juniors Tahnai Annis and Lindsay Thompson each turned in their fourth career double-goal matches. Annis now leads the SEC with 10 goals this season. In Sunday’s 2-1 overtime win versus No. 21 Georgia, the Gators trailed in the opening half for the first time this season after the Bulldogs scored in the 12th minute. Sophomore Erika Tymrak provided the tying goal in the 82nd minute and then hit a 23-yard golden goal strike in the 97th minute.

Tymrak and Thompson each picked up weekly honors on Monday as Tymrak was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week and Thompson is part of the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week.
