Benneteau, Lacroix end their NCAA run

ATHENS, Ga. – Florida’s two entries at the NCAA Division I Men’s Singles and Doubles Tennis Championships were ousted from the competition Thursday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Georgia.

Junior Alexandre Lacroix, the No. 8 seed in the 64 player singles competition, met Pepperdine’s Bassam Beidas in the second round, and Beidas escaped with a 4-6, 7-5, 7-5 victory. Lacroix finished the season with a 34-11 singles record, which ties for the seventh-most singles wins in a season in Florida men’s tennis history.

Later in the day, Oklahoma’s Andrei Daescu and Costin Paval met Lacroix and his senior partner Antoine Benneteau, and they ousted the Gators duo in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Lacroix and Benneteau finished the season 31-8, only the second doubles team in school history to win 30 matches in one season.
