Women’s College World Series Preview

The Florida Gators head back to the Women’s College World Series to defend their title and they do so with a perfect 5-0 record this postseason and are fresh off of a perfect two-game sweep of the Kentucky Wildcats last weekend in the Super Regionals.

Florida is one of five SEC teams in the College World Series and the Gators are in a bracket with all SEC teams.

The Gators are the No. 1 seed in the bracket but will open up against a tough Tennessee team that eliminated Florida in the SEC tournament.

Teams in Florida’s bracket

No. 8 seed Tennessee is the Gators’ first opponent on Thursday and the Vols swept Florida State in the Super Regionals last weekend.

No. 4 seed is Auburn in the bracket and the Gators have yet to meet Auburn, but the Tigers did sweep Louisiana Lafayette last weekend.

No. 5 seed LSU took the regular season series against Florida in Gainesville this year by winning two games but the Tigers struggled down the stretch.

In the batter’s box:

Florida has a .309 batting average this year with 77 home runs but has struggled some this postseason at the plate.

The Gators are always relying on leadoff hitter Kelsey Stewart to get the game started as she has a team leading .448 average this year.

Nicole DeWitt is also coming on strong this year with a .351 average and has 26 RBI’s this season.

In the circle:

Lauren Haeger will be the key to the Gators as she enters the World Series with a 1.24 ERA and a 28-1 record. Haeger is a perfect 4-0 with 0.00 ERA in the postseason this year.

Aleshia Ocasio will also be needed in the circle and she has a 1.99 ERA and a 17-3 record this year. Ocasio is also 1-0 this postseason with a 0.00 ERA this postseason.
