GatorCountry.com brings you this week’s Florida Gators softball review as the Gators finished the Judi Garman Classic a perfect 5-0. In this recap, we will break down the past week’s games, plus name a player of the week from the past week.
The Gators defeated two top 25 teams and outscored the five teams 45-8 over the weekend.
Florida is now 20-1 on the year and head home for a little break before the Gators start SEC play on Saturday.

- Florida defeated Iowa 8-0 – winning pitcher Delanie Gourley
- Florida defeated Long Beach State 17-0 – winning pitcher Kelly Barnhill
- Florida defeated No.23 Cal 4-0- winning pitcher Aleshia Ocasio, save Kelly Barnhill
- Florida defeated No. 7 UCLA 9-4- winning pitcher Delanie Gourley
- Florida defeated Northwestern 7-4- winning pitcher Kelly Barnhill, save Delanie Gourley
Offensive leaders
Junior Kayli Kvistad continues to lead the Gators at the plate and this weekend she drove in five runs from the three hole. Kvistad added seven hits, eight walks, and four runs as well. Kvistad added another home run to her totals this weekend.
Sophomore Amanda Lorenz hit in the leadoff spot this weekend and scores six runs from the spot. Lorenz also added six RBI’s and was 6-10 at the plate.
Junior Janell Wheaton has been in a mighty slump this year but went a cool 6-8 at the plate this weekend. Wheaton also walked five times and scored six runs to added to her great weekend.
Pitching
Tim Walton and Florida Gators softball pitching coach Jennifer Rocha threw all four of the Gators pitchers again this past weekend.
Senior Delanie Gourley stole the show this weekend with her perfect game against Iowa on Thursday afternoon. On the weekend Gourley pitched 13 innings and struck out 23 batters in those innings. Gourley picked up two wins a save this weekend.
Sophomore Kelly Barnhill dominated the competition again this weekend by picking up two wins and a save. Barnhill had 22 strikeouts in just 12 innings pitched in three appearances.
Junior Aleshia Ocasio only had one appearance over the weekend and she got the win over Cal on Friday. Ocasio had four strikeouts in five innings pitched.
Player of the week
Delanie Gourley threw a perfect game, which is very special so she’s the player of the week this week. Gourley is 8-1 on the year and that includes five complete games and two saves.

Florida doesn’t play a mid-week game this week as they prepare for SEC play to start on Saturday.
