Florida Gators volleyball sweeps Missouri

Special report on the Florida Gators volleyball team

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Senior outside hitter Živa Recek put up her 24th career double-double and sophomore outside Carli Snyder slammed down a floor-high 12 kills as the No. 15 Gators added their sixth straight win via a sweep of Missouri Sunday afternoon in front of a pink-clad crowd in the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.

The Orange and Blue donned a splash of pink Sunday at the Gators' annual cancer awareness Pink Match, a fun one for the 2,000-plus fans in attendance who saw Florida (15-4, 7-3 SEC) add its 10th sweep of the season with 25-12, 25-14 and 25-17 set scores against Missouri (18-3, 6-2 SEC).

Recek notched her team-leading fifth double-double of the season with 11 kills, 10 digs, and Snyder led UF with 12 slams as the duo accounted for half of the Gators' 45 kills on the afternoon thanks to UF's solid passing and ball distribution against the Tigers. Senior libero Nikki O'Rourke led Florida with 13 digs to stabilize the back row, while senior setter Mackenzie Dagostino connected well with the outsides, including junior right side Alex Holston, who hit .429 with six kills on 14 errorless swings.

UF was low-error Sunday against Missouri, while the Gators forced three Missouri players to a negative hitting efficiency and a .009 clip as a team on the afternoon.

Florida was clicking on all cylinders in the first set as the Gators hit .438 to Mizzou's .290, thanks to five Snyder kills, six digs from O'Rourke, and three UF players hitting .500 or better in the stanza. While set two featured nine ties and four lead changes early, after a 10-10 tie the Orange and Blue kicked it into another gear to close the frame on a 15-4 run on the way to a 25-14 final.

At the break, the Tigers were hitting -.031 to Florida's .379. The third and final set was the closest of the day with 11 ties and five lead changes, but Florida closed it out with stellar serving from freshman setter Abby Detering -- who had UF's lone service ace Sunday -- and Dagostino's bullets for a second-straight SEC sweep.

Next up, a two-match road swing up the east coast for the Orange and Blue to South Carolina Oct. 30 and Georgia Nov. 1. Both contests will stream live on SEC Network + via WatchESPN.
