Florida Gators soccer wins SEC tournament title

The Florida Gators soccer team won their 12th SEC Tournament with a 2-1 win over the Arkansas Razorbacks. The Gators had to win it in overtime, which seems like the only way it could end after the way this tournament has gone.

The first half was controlled by the Gators for the most part as they pushed the ball up the pitch and had a plethora of shots on goal. The first goal came from who else but the Gators leading goal scorer, Savannah Jordan. Jordan collected a ball that was rolling in the box and put the Gators ahead with 19 minutes left in the first half. The goal came at a good time as the Razorbacks were starting to pick up some momentum and getting off some dangerous shots. The Gators were able to hold off the Razorbacks and go into halftime with a hard working 1-0 lead.

To start the second half, the Razorbacks controlled the momentum and had the Gators on their toes. With corner after corner and shot after shot, the Gators finally let the Razorbacks get a goal to tie the game at one a piece. The Razorbacks goal sent the game into overtime and the Gators had to pull together enough strength to hoist the trophy yet again.

In overtime, both teams started out aggressively but it was the Gators who won on a golden goal from Brooke Sharp. Sharp was the Gators unlikely hero as it was only her second goal of the year.

A lot can be said about this season under Becky Burleigh, but one this is for sure, the Gators are playing their best soccer at the best time as selections for the NCAA Tournament begin this week.
