Welcome to the new Gator Country & Magazine!

And they said it couldn’t (OK, wouldn’t) be done. After months of waitin’, and a-hopin’ and a-wishin’ and a-prayin’ the new GatorCountry.com and magazine is here!

First, thanks to all of you for being so patient and understanding during our site migration. As you know it’s not over yet and there’ve been a few bumps in the road along the Ray…ahem…way.

Because a new website is just the start of major upgrades at Gator Country in 2013, here’s a preview of what’s hot off the presses and what’s to come in the next couple months.

New Gator Country Website

Gator Country has been setting the standard for University of Florida athletics coverage since our inception in 1996. Now in our 17th year, we haven’t forgotten what made us great and kept us going us all these years. Pardon the dust around our construction zone, for Gator Country is back and back in a very big way.

Along with our already fantastic staff and stable of freelancers, we’ve even convinced Franz Beard to come out of semi-retirement to write for our website and magazine. With Franz being the final piece in our puzzle, the other guys don’t have a prayer of catching us this season (not that they really ever did). Along with this you’ll see the names of old Gators as we team with the Florida Players Network to tell you where the former Gators are now. You’ll recognize names like Bob Hewko, Ephesians “Fee” Bartley, and more who will be offering up their football expertise.

On the tech front, we’re thrilled that you love our state of the art front page. In the next few weeks look for upgraded message boards that promise to set the industry standard both for their futuristic look as well as the ease of posting that will make them so much easier and fun to use. We’ll also be rolling out a new, more functional mobile app to give you an even better experience on the go. And on the back end, we’ve been working on a completely new billing system that promises to be so much easier to use to keep your membership up with us.

New Gator Country Magazine

We’ve been fortunate enough to forge an alliance with North Central Florida’s largest independent publisher, Tower Publications. Working together, we’ve decided to do something innovative — produce at least twice a year a high-end, collector’s quality oversize magazine with triple the pages and content so that you have more real features and in-depth coverage that’s far more timeless and relevant all season around.

You’ll get 100% original content and inside information you won’t be able to find anywhere else. With over 120 thick pages of feature stories & information, the latest recruiting news, excellent commentary crafted by our staff of award winning writers, and stunning photos shot exclusively for Gator Country, our magazine is a ‘must have’ for every true Gator fan. And it looks *beautiful* on your coffee table, we guarantee it!

Don’t forget, VIP subscribers to GatorCountry.com have our special edition magazines mailed directly to their home! Existing VIP members: Our new, loaded issue is on its way to you.

You’ll also be able to find copies of our magazine at local newsstands throughout the state of Florida and around the stadium on game day, so be on the look out!

And speaking of our VIPs (Holy Segues, Batman!)…

Raymond Hines
Back when I was a wee one I had to decide if I wanted to live dangerously and become a computer hacker or start a website devoted to the Gators. I chose the Gators instead of the daily thrill of knowing my next meal might be at Leavenworth. No regrets, however. The Gators have been and will continue to be my addiction. What makes this so much fun is that the more addicted I become to the Florida Gators, the more fun I have doing innovative things to help bring all the Gator news that is news (and some that isn’t) to Gator fans around the world. Andy Warhol said we all have our 15 minutes of fame. Thanks to Gator Country, I’m working on a half hour. Thanks to an understanding daughter that can’t decide if she’s going to be the female version of Einstein, Miss Universe, President of the United States or a princess, I get to spend my days doing what I’ve done since Gus Garcia and I founded Gator Country back in 1996. Has it really been over a decade and a half now?
