Florida Gators head coach Dan Mullen spoke to the media on Monday to review the CSU game and look ahead to Kentucky. He updated on several injuries and talked about what he saw, good and bad, from his players in the first game of the season.
Here’s what he said:
• David Reese won’t practice early in the week, but hopeful to be ready for the game.
• Shawn Davis and Jacob Copeland are both still out. Copeland will likely be out another week or two.
• C.J. McWilliams will be back from his injury this week.
• Brian Johnson is the one who called the jump pass on Saturday.
• Mullen said he thought Franks threw the ball well and made good decisions. He only had one wrong read in the game.
• He thought Kyle Trask did a great job in the limited opportunities he was given.
• Mullen liked that the team didn’t get down after giving up a couple big plays against CSU and continued to give the same effort on the following plays.
• After watching the film, Mullen thinks tackling needs to get better and they need to run the ball a little cleaner.
• Brett Heggie did not grade out well and has a ways to go before he is ready to get on the field.
• Mullen thinks Malik Davis gained some confidence after taking a big hit to the leg and being able to get right back up.
• On moving on to Kentucky: “We have to be a lot better if we want to be a good football team.”
