Florida Gators head coach Dan Mullen spoke to the media on Monday following a relaxing bye week and the biggest week of the 2018 season coming up. He looked ahead to the Top 10 matchup with the Georgia Bulldogs.
Here’s what he said:
• On the Florida-Georgia game: “It’s one of the great scenes in all of college football.”
• “Rivalry games you love winning because it’s bragging rights for the next year.”
• The team got to relax and refresh during the bye week. Mullen wants to see how they respond to the increased intensity in Monday’s practice.
• Mullen expects Georgia to play freshman quarterback Justin Fields on Saturday and possibly see some new looks with him in the offense. “We’ve gotta be ready for both of them.”
• “You’re only as good as your last game. Hopefully we’ll be ranked in the Top 10 after this week.”
• Mullen said the Gators aren’t dominant, but they play together as a team and find ways to win.
• Freshman kicker Even McPherson has hit field goals from 55-60 yards in practice. It will depend on the situation if he ever gets a chance from that deep in a game.
• There are no issues with T.J. Slaton, who has not played much lately. Mullen said he just has to execute better in practice and earn reps.
• Mullen said when he and his staff are recruiting, they lean more on their evaluations of players rather than who has the most stars or offers from other schools.
