Meyer to sign books to help UF students

Urban Meyer is planning on getting a hand cramp April 18 and he hopes Gator Nation will help relieve his pain.

Fans attending the Orange & Blue Spring Game on April 18 will have a chance to buy a copy of “Urban’s Way” and have it autographed by Florida’s head football coach while helping the school’s Florida Opportunity Scholars program at the same time.

Meyer will sign copies of the book, his authorized biography written by award-winning author Buddy Martin of Gator Country.com that will be on sale at Gate 1 of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium between 8 and 9 a.m. before the annual intrasquad game that concludes spring practice.

The publisher of the book, St. Martin’s Press, is donating the copies that will be sold and Gator Country.com is lending a hand so that Meyer can help the Florida Opportunity Scholars program.

The program provides scholarships to Florida students who are the first in their families to attend college and who come from lower-income households. Funds from the program pay for room and board, books and other living expenses.

This year, there are more than 1,100 Florida Opportunity Scholars who would not otherwise be able to attend without this funding. The program has an annual budget of $8 million.

The books are priced at $25, with all sales and additional contributions collected benefitting the Florida Opportunity Scholars program.
