McElwain updates Florida Gators injury news

The injury bug has been feasting on the No. 21 Florida Gators the past two weeks and the injury report showed that on Monday afternoon.

Jim McElwain detailed nine Florida Gators starters and an injury list long enough to field a team. Starting linebacker Alex Anzalone and safety Marcus Maye have had their seasons end with broken arms in consecutive weeks.

McElwain also listed four other starters that will be out for the LSU game. Cam Dillard (knee), Jarrad Davis (ankle), Bryan Cox Jr. (leg) and David Sharpe (ankle), will be out this week. Dillard and Davis sustained their injuries against Arkansas, while Sharpe and Cox both were hurt against South Carolina. Mark Herndon and C.J. Worton will also miss this week with knee and ankle injuries.

“Those are some pretty significant guys from an injury standpoint,” McElwain said.

McElwain isn’t ruling out sophomore CeCe Jefferson (foot), who missed the South Carolina game. Jefferson has 19 tackles including three for a loss on the season and had started the previous four games before his injury.

Backup center Tyler Jordan left the South Carolina game on the first play and never returned. Jordan should be able to play this week.

A South Florida native, Nick developed a passion for all things sports at a very young age. His love for baseball was solidified when he saw Al Leiter’s no-hitter for the Marlins live in May of 1996. He was able to play baseball in college but quickly realized there isn’t much of a market for short, slow outfielders that hit around the Mendoza line. Wanting to continue with sports in some capacity he studied journalism at the University of Central Florida. Nick got his first start in the business as an intern for a website covering all things related to the NFL draft before spending two seasons covering the Florida football team at Bleacher Report. That job led him to GatorCountry. When he isn’t covering Gator sports, Nick enjoys hitting way too many shots on the golf course, attempting to keep up with his favorite t.v. shows and watching the Heat, Dolphins and Marlins.
