His pancakes are not for breakfast

Peter White enjoys pancakes. At 6-4, 344 pounds, the offensive tackle at St. John’s College High School in Washington, D.C., has probably eaten more than his share for breakfast.

He also likes making them on the football field, too. White’s physical nature is part of the reason why he is considered one of the top offensive linemen in the country for the class of 2009.

“I like to pancake defensive lineman, and hit the little guys like cornerbacks, too,” White said. “A lot of people think that just because you play on offense you don’t get to hit as much, but I still get to hit people a lot.”

Where White will do his hitting after his senior season at St. John’s College remains to be seen, but he has narrowed his list down to five schools, all of which are about equal to him. White talked about what appeals to him about each of his top five schools.

FLORIDA: “I like their offense and I really like coach [Urban] Meyer and coach [Billy] Gonzales. I’ve always liked Florida.”

TENNESSEE: “When I went on my unofficial visit there they told me they would teach me how to play all the positions on the line, which I like. I want to learn how to play more than just offensive tackle.”

MARYLAND: “I grew up a Maryland fan because I live in the area. A lot of my family went to college there so I know a lot about them.”

OREGON: “My high school offensive line coach played at Maryland and his offensive line coach is now the offensive line coach at Oregon. So, I get a lot of information about the program from him.”

MIAMI: “I’ve always liked Miami and the swagger that all of the players have.”

Right now, White is working on setting up some official visits. While nothing is set in stone yet, he did mention two games where two of his top five teams are playing each other.

“I have talked about going to Tennessee-Florida game, but it is still up in air,” White said. “I also might go to the Miami-Florida game, which would be cool.”

White is in no rush to make a decision and expects to take all five of his official visits. When he does sit down and make a decision, there are several factors that he will consider.

“I want a place where I can play early,” he said. “Also, I want a place with great academics and I want to major in secondary education. Finally, the school has to have a good environment.”

Earlier this summer, White was invited to play in the ESPN Under Armour All-American Game which is going to be held on Jan. 4. White said he was honored to be selected.

“I’m very excited about the game,” he said. “I never thought I was going to play in it. My high school team is sponsored by Under Armour which is really cool. I am really looking forward to the game itself and playing against the top competition in the country.”

White plays both offensive line and defensive line for his high school, so the big lineman worked hard on improving his stamina during the summer. So far, he has noticed a huge improvement.

“My conditioning has definitely gotten a lot better,” he said. “In our last scrimmage I only came off the field for six or seven plays, which I was really happy about.”
