Hargreaves earns preseason All-American honors

As you tear out a page in your calendar — and wonder why in 2015 you still have a paper calendar — you realize it’s June and that means preseason awards and watch lists are coming.

Of all the college football prognosticators, none is as accurate or as respected in the industry as Phil Steele, who on Monday released his preseason All-American list.

To little surprise the Florida Gators had one player named to Steele’s First Team All-American Team, cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III. Hargreaves is one of two players in the country (joining Florida State kicker Roberto Aguayo) to be named to Steel’s First Team in consecutive years. Antonio Morrison was named a Third Team All-American as well.

Steele also released his Preseason All-SEC teams, with, again, Hargreaves being the lone first team selection. Jon Bullard and Demarcus Robinson were Second Team All-SEC selections on defense and offense respectively and Austin Hardin and Brian Poole made the Third-Team and Fourth-Team All-SEC list as well.

A South Florida native, Nick developed a passion for all things sports at a very young age. His love for baseball was solidified when he saw Al Leiter’s no-hitter for the Marlins live in May of 1996. He was able to play baseball in college but quickly realized there isn’t much of a market for short, slow outfielders that hit around the Mendoza line. Wanting to continue with sports in some capacity he studied journalism at the University of Central Florida. Nick got his first start in the business as an intern for a website covering all things related to the NFL draft before spending two seasons covering the Florida football team at Bleacher Report. That job led him to GatorCountry. When he isn’t covering Gator sports, Nick enjoys hitting way too many shots on the golf course, attempting to keep up with his favorite t.v. shows and watching the Heat, Dolphins and Marlins.
