Muschamp notebook: Injuries and starters

Florida Coach Will Muschamp met with the media today:

Muschamp said running back Matt Jones will be out for the Toledo game.

Muschamp says they’re still waiting for medical clearance on Jones so as not to tax him physically before he can take it.

Muschamp also said guard Jon Halapio will be out for the Toledo and Miami games, he projects him to play against Tennessee.

Muschamp feels good about the mixture of linemen with Halapio out.

Muschamp said fullback Hunter Joyer, cornerback Vernon Hargreaves and receiver Rapheal Andrades will be back at practice on Monday.

Muschamp still has concerns about the urgency of the team and questions about the young guys they will have to count on.

Muschamp met with the senior leaders to talk about how camp had gone.

Muschamp thinks the most improvement comes from game one to game two.

Muschamp thinks there is anxiety for the first game, he said he feels it as a coach and also felt it as a player.

Muschamp says Demarcus Robinson will not start at this time, but he will play a lot.

Muschamp said he’s not worried about the 2014 schedule, just focused on Toledo.

Muschamp says guard Tyler Moore is also getting reps at right tackle.

Muschamp says he just wants Sam linebacker Ronald Powell to just cut it loose and play.

Muschamp says the freshman he plans on playing at his point are: LBs Jarrad Davis, Alex Anzalone, Daniel McMillian, CBs Vernon Hargreaves III, Nick Washington and safety Keanu Neal.

Muschamp would like to redshirt punter Johnny Towndsend.

Muschamp said that athletically, you could see Demarcus Robinson was ready to compete in the spring.

Muschamp has no timetable on when LB Antonio Morrison will play.

Muschamp is not a fan of the new targeting rule, but thinks what is and isn’t a legal hit has been clearly defined.

Muschamp did say there have been many teaching opportunities to show the players what is and isn’t targeting in practice.
