Florida Gators to have beer and wine at Football and basketball games

The Florida Gators will sell alcohol at football and basketball games starting in 2016, the school announced on Wednesday afternoon.

The University of Florida had previously taken a hard stance against the sale of alcohol at sporting events and this move is somewhat of a baby step rather than a full plunge into beer and alcohol sales.

Alcohol sales will be limited to premium seating areas in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Fans in the Holloway Touchdown Terrace and Evans Champions Club will be able to purchase beer and alcohol up until the start of the third quarter. At the newly renovated O-Dome beer and wine sales will be available to fans in the Sideline Club and Courtside Club, with sales ending at the start of the second half.

“Providing alcohol in our premium seating areas for both football and men’s basketball was another amenity we wanted to provide to the fans in those areas,” said Athletic Director Jeremy Foley in a release from the school.

A South Florida native, Nick developed a passion for all things sports at a very young age. His love for baseball was solidified when he saw Al Leiter’s no-hitter for the Marlins live in May of 1996. He was able to play baseball in college but quickly realized there isn’t much of a market for short, slow outfielders that hit around the Mendoza line. Wanting to continue with sports in some capacity he studied journalism at the University of Central Florida. Nick got his first start in the business as an intern for a website covering all things related to the NFL draft before spending two seasons covering the Florida football team at Bleacher Report. That job led him to GatorCountry. When he isn’t covering Gator sports, Nick enjoys hitting way too many shots on the golf course, attempting to keep up with his favorite t.v. shows and watching the Heat, Dolphins and Marlins.
