Salyer high on the Gators board: Florida Gators recruiting

The class of 2018 is the first Florida Gators recruiting class that Jim McElwain and his coaching staff will be on a level playing field and it’s a loaded class nationwide.

This summer the Gators offered 2018 offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer (6-4, 327, Atlanta, GA. Pace Academy) and he’s one of those top guys in the class.

Offensive line coach Mike Summers and head coach Jim McElwain have both been recruiting Salyer lately.

“I speak with the offensive line coach [Mike Summers] over the phone,” Salyer said. “I actually haven’t gotten a chance to meet them in person yet. I’ve just had contact with them over the phone when I call them.”

Summers has expressed a big need for an upgrade on the offensive line to Salyer and explained where he sits on the Gators board.

“He tells me that he definitely wants me at Florida,” he said of Summers’ message. “He said that I’m one of the top recruits on their board for next year. He just wants me to come down for a game so he can really me the school and so I can meet everyone.”

Salyer already has double digits scholarship offers but he says the Gators are a school that he has a lot of interest in for two reasons.

“Florida is very high on my list right now,” Salyer said of his interest in Florida. “Florida seems like a great place to go to school at and I know that it’s a great academic school. They also play great football there.”

The 2018 offensive lineman has never been to Florida before he but he has plans to get down to Gainesville this fall.

“I’m planning on getting down there for a game this fall,” he said of possible visits to Florida. “It will definitely be for a game and maybe an overnight visit when I come down there.”

The Gators aren’t the only team after Salyer as two other big name schools are also high in his mind.

“Ohio State and Georgia are also high on my list,” Salyer said. “Right now I don’t have any leaders or anything but they’re high on my list.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Salyer is one of the top offensive lineman in the country for 2018 and the Gators are definitely interested and pushing for him. Georgia looks to be the biggest competition for the offensive lineman.
