Prep Rewind: Week Two

With the NFL schedule still a week away, football season is now back in full swing and we here at Gator Country couldn’t be happier. We’re back again this week with the Prep Rewind, where we give you the stats and scores from the weekend’s high school games involving Florida commitments and targets.

Week two’s player of the week is:

Homestead (Fla.) High receiver Ermon Lane

Result: Homestead defeated Boyd Anderson 35-18 to start the 2013 season with a win.

Stats: Lane had seven catches for 189 yards and two touchdowns. Lane would have had a third score but it was called back.

Philadelphia (Pa.) Germantown offensive lineman Dontae Angus

Result: Germantown had a bye this past week.

Stats: N/A

Casper (WY.) Natrona County defensive end Taven Bryan

Result: Natrona County defeated Central 40-20 in their season opener last Friday.

Stats: Bryan and the offensive line helped Natrona County pass for over 300 yards in the win.

Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade Madonna defensive tackle Khairi Clark

Result: Chaminade Madonna doesn’t start their season until September 6th.

Stats: N/A

Miami (Fla.) Central running back Dalvin Cook

Result: Central defeated American Heritage 42-20 to start their season 1-0 as the number one team in the country.

Stats: Dalvin Cook had four touchdowns on 13 carries and ran for a total of 142 yards in the win.

Cross City (Fla.) Dixie County cornerback Duke Dawson

Result: Dixie County defeated Taylor County 22-7 in the opening game of the 2013 season last Friday.

Stats: Duke Dawson had an interception in the win as he shut down 2013 recruit Moral Stepehns.

Jacksonville (Fla.) Raines offensive lineman Travaris Dorsey

Result: Raines defeated White 7-2 in the opening game of the 2013 season.

Davidson (N.C.) Day quarterback Will Grier

Result: Davidson Day defeated North Raleigh Christian Academy 68-0 to start the season 2-0 in 2013.

Stats: Grier threw for 361 yards on Friday night and had 7 touchdown passes for the second straight week. In just 6 quarters of action this year, Grier has 15 total touchdowns.

Immokalee (Fla.) High cornerback J.C. Jackson

Result: Immokalee lost to Our Lady of Good Counsel 33-0 in their opening  of game 2013.

Mount Pleasant (S.C.) Wando offensive lineman Nolan Kelleher

Result: Beaufort defeated Wando 17-14 on Friday Night to improve to 1-1 on the season.

Stats: N/A

Deland (Fla.) High offensive lineman Benjamin Knox

Result: Mainland defeated Deland 35-0 on Friday night.

Stats: Knox played offensive and defensive line in the loss.

Plantation (Fla.) High cornerback Chris Lammons

Result: Plantation beat Dillard 33-6 in the opening week of the season.

Stats: Chris Lammons threw two touchdown passes in the win for Plantation.

Tuscaloosa (Al.) Kingwood Christian tight end C’yontai Lewis

Result: Kingwood Christian defeated Hooper Academy 56-34 in the opening week of play in the state of Alabama.

Stats: N/A

Clearwater (Fla.) Central Catholic defensive end Justus Reed

Result: Central Catholic defeated Lely 48-10 in the opening week of the season.

Stats: Reed had 4.5 sacks in the win and now has 10.5 sacks in his two games of the season.

Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) University cornerback Quincy Wilson

Result: University School beat Taravella 54-14 to move to 2-0 on the season.

Stats: Wilson had an interception that he returned for a touchdown that covered 106 yards. That gives Wilson two interceptions on the year.

Andrew always knew he wanted to be involved with sports in some capacity. He began by coaching high school football for six years before deciding to pursue a career in journalism. While coaching, he was a part of two state semifinal teams in the state of Alabama. Given his past coaching experience, he figured covering recruiting would be a perfect fit.
