OL Corey Martinez likes Florida’s feel

With the 2013 class on its way to being finished, the coaching staff has started to pay close attention to the 2014 class.

On Saturday, one of the top 2014 offensive lineman, Corey Martinez, visited Gainesville. Last season Martinez helped lead Tampa Catholic to a 6-4 record while averaging 26.4 points per game.

“I had a great time,” Martinez said. “I’m really glad I came and got to meet all of the coaching staff at Florida.”

The 6-foot-4, 305-pound Martinez of Tampa, Fla., has yet to receive an offer but that could change soon.

As spring evaluations start on April 15, the Gators coaching staff will start to evaluate the 2014 class and Martinez should be one of the top prospects evaluated.

“We didn’t really get into talking about an offer,” Martinez said. “But they said they loved my film and will be to my school to see me practice this spring. So maybe I get an offer after that.”

Martinez, like so many before him, fell victim to the Florida atmosphere that surrounds “The Swamp” and the football team.

“The environment was amazing,” Martinez said. “It’s amazing how much pride the players and fans have. It’s a great feeling to be around.”

Even though the Florida offense didn’t show the whole playbook during the spring they showed enough to impress Martinez.

“I really liked the new offense they have,” Martinez said. “I enjoyed seeing some of the new things that they are putting into the offense.”

Last year the offensive line had its share of struggles but Martinez doesn’t see that to be the case anymore.

“The offensive line was looking awesome,” Martinez said. “They are going to have a huge impact this year I believe.”
