With the Class of 2013 quickly wrapping up, Gators fans are now starting to look ahead to the Class of 2014.
One of the top prospects on Florida’s board for next year is 2014 Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy offensive lineman Denzel Ward.
The 6-foot-9, 285-pound Ward committed to Michigan last year, but after his recent move from Chicago to IMG Academy he has de-committed from Michigan.
“I am no longer a commit to the University of Michigan,” Ward said. “I really appreciate the love from there, but I just want to make the best decision for me.”
Now that Ward has de-committed, Florida looks to be in great shape for Ward, who received a visit from the Gators on Monday.
“Coach (Will) Muschamp came by to see me on Monday,” Ward said. “He was fired up about me getting up there for another visit, and he really feels IMG will prepare me play as a freshman at whatever school I choose for college.”
Ward visited the Gators earlier in January after he performed in the Under Armour Underclassmen Combine in St. Petersburg, Fla.
The visit was a successful one for Ward as he was able to meet all of the Gators coaching staff and see the facilities around the program.
Ward already has another visit planned to see the Gators.
“I’ll be in Gainesville for the Kentucky basketball game,” Ward said. “That’s on February 12th.”
