Miller talks Florida Gators offer and visits

Every year college coaches head out on the road during the spring evaluation period to see prospects in person, which leads to prospects picking up scholarship offers.

That was the case when Florida Gators defensive backs coach Torrian Gray visited and offered linebacker Ventrell Miller (6-1, 224, Lakeland, FL Kathleen) this spring.

“Coach Gray was the coach that offered me on Friday,” Miller said. “Coach Gray was by my school, but he couldn’t talk to me because of the rules, so my head coach told me that I had gotten the offer from Florida. It was before my spring game started.”

While Miller just picked up the offer from Florida last week, the Gators have been communicating with him for some time now.

“I’ve been talking to Coach Gray a lot since he got to Florida this year,” he said of who talks to from Florida. “He was basically telling me to be patient since I didn’t have the offer yet. He told me that he was trying to get everyone on board with me because he liked me. He has always kept me updated on Florida.”

Miller has become close with Gray, but he’s waiting to talk with defensive coordinator Geoff Collins to find out where he would fit into the Florida defense.

“Coach Gray has told me that I would be a good fit for them and their defense,” Miller said. “I had lost my phone, so I haven’t had a chance to talk to Coach Collins yet, but I’m going to talk to him soon. I think he will tell me more about the defense and stuff then.”

The Lakeland prospect didn’t grow up rooting for the Orange and Blue, but he still considers the Florida offer a big one.

“It’s big offer coming from a team like Florida,” Miller said of the offer. “It’s big instate offer and they’re in the SEC so it’s a big deal to me. I grew up a Miami/Florida State fan but I still like the way Florida plays and how their defense plays. I watch them play on TV and I like them.”

The Gators will have a chance to impress Miller, as the linebacker wants to visit Gainesville soon.

“I haven’t set my calendar for my visits yet but Florida is a school that I want to visit,” he said. “They’re one of the schools that I want to get up and visit this summer. I don’t have any for sure plans for visits yet though.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Miller has been a guy on the Gators radar all spring, as Gray has visited him twice. Miller is an athletic guy that I expect Florida to be a big factor in his recruitment as he plans to announce a decision after his season is over.
