McGinnis makes first trip to Florida

2015 outside linebacker Arthur McGinnis arrived at Friday Night Lights prepared to see Gainesville. The 6’2’’ 215-pound New Orleans prospect comes to Gainesville ready to experience all that Florida has to offer, for the first time.

“I’ve been working hard on [getting to Florida]. I’ve been wanting to come down and visit. Getting down here, coming to show my skills and trying to get this offer it’d be great,” McGinnis said. “[The coaches] told me to come down here and they’re gonna work with me and they’re going to talk to me. I’ll get the feel of the coaches and they’ll talk about it later.”

While McGinnis waits on an offer from Florida, he picked up scholarships from UCLA, as well as conference rivals Mississippi State and Texas A&M. He’s double dipped at A&M, attending camps in College Station twice this summer. The Aggies were the first team to offer a scholarship to McGinnis.

“It’s very exciting to have SEC schools offering,” McGinnis said.

He’s always been a fan of Florida, and looks forward to working with defensive coordinator DJ Durkin.

“Just to get some tips on how to do things and to get to work with him will be awesome,” McGinnis said.

While he holds an affinity for Durkin—the former linebackers coach at UF—he is mainly being recruited by tight ends coach Derek Lewis.

McGinnis ran a 4.66 40-yard dash time and boasted a 41.5 foot power throw, tops for any linebacker in April’s Memphis NFTC.

Richard lives in Gainesville and prides himself in being a bonafide lifelong Alachua County Resident. He attends the University of Florida and is in his third year studying Telecommunications. He isn’t sure how he started loving football being the son of two immigrants that don’t care about the sport, but he has developed a borderline unhealthy obsession with it. In his free time, Richard watches other sports and is an avid fan of the Los Angeles Lakers and Tampa Bay Rays. He doesn’t like chocolate, knows Moe’s is better than Chipotle and drinks way too many Arnold Palmers. He also took up golf in the summer of 2012. That pursuit isn’t going well.
