Coach McElwain after Ohio State athlete commit

The Florida Gators are in the  middle of a long camp circuit and the Gators have welcomed in some big named prospects already with a week of camp still remaining.

Saturday didn’t have a ton of big names on campus but the biggest name at camp was 2017 Ohio State athlete commit Bruce Judson (5-9, 184, Cocoa, FL High), who decided to work out in front of the coaching staff in the Swamp.

“It went good, I’m glad I went up there,” Judson said. “I actually worked out during the camp. It was good, it had some good competition. I got to talk and learn from Coach Mac [Jim McElwain], Coach [Geoff] Collins and Coach [Kerry] Dixon.”

McElwain knows that Judson is interested in the Gators and he sent a pretty clear message to the athlete on Saturday.

“Coach Mac said that he knows that I’m going to be a Gator but that I just don’t know it yet,” Judson said of McElwain’s message. “He said that I’m going to play a big role there because of the athlete I am. He said that I can play cornerback, running back, receiver and be a returner. He was really saying that I’m there guy.”

The Gators coaching staff hasn’t told Judson where they see him playing at in college but receivers coach Kerry Dixon has been the lead recruiter in Judson’s recruitment.

“Coach Dixon is one of my favorite coaches to talk too,” he said. “He told me that he liked how run routes and that I’m just a nature athlete. I really enjoying talking to him and he just wants me to coming back. He said to keep doing what I’m doing and to keep working hard.”

One thing helping the Gators out is that Judson’s good friend and high school teammate Chauncey Gardner is currently a Gators commit who likes to talk up the Orange and Blue.

“Chauncey is in my ear some. Like some days when we’re going against each other in 1-on-1 he will say stuff,” Judson said. “I would say that he’s kind of recruiting me to Florida but he also let’s me make my own decision.”

Judson has been committed to Ohio State for several months now, and he isn’t backing away from that, but he did insist that another team has moved up in his recruitment.

“I’m still solid to Ohio State but Florida is my number two,” he said. “I like both of them and I just have to see how everything goes with them. Right now though I’m still 100 percent to Ohio State.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Judson says that he plans to visit at least one more time this summer and that could be for Friday Night Lights or for another unofficial visit. Judson really likes the Gators coaching staff and as long as Florida keeps getting him on campus then the Gators have a shot.
