Lambert sets decision date

The last two years, Will Muschamp and the Florida Gators have had success in the JUCO ranks, especially on the defensive line front.

This year the Gators are looking in the JUCO ranks to land more top prospects. Milledgeville (Ga.) Georgia Military College defensive end Davonte Lambert has Florida on his final list.

The 6-foot-3, 270-pound Lambert has narrowed his list of schools down to three, and will make a decision very soon.

“My final three are Florida, Auburn and Tennessee,” Lambert said. “I have no leader right now, and Georgia is out for me. I plan to make a decision on August 13th. I’m waiting on my coach to return from vacation so I can talk to him about how I’m going to announce my decision and such.”

For Florida, they have one of Lambert’s former teammates in Trenton Brown on the team. When Lambert recently visited the Gators, Brown was his host.

But Lambert says he will not make a decision strictly off of Brown, but this will be a family decision for him.

“Right now I have some idea of where I want to go in my head,” Lambert said. “But I’m going to go home and talk to my family about it and see what my grandma thinks. Whatever she tells me to do is what I’ll mostly like do. My grandma has visited both Florida and Tennessee with me.”

Lambert says that both Tennessee and Florida have talked to him about playing the same way in their defenses.

“I talk to coach (Will) Muschamp every week,” Lambert said. “He tells me that I will play defensive end, but I will also slide to defensive tackle some as well. Coach (Butch) Jones is basically telling me the same thing, that I’ll move around from defensive end to defensive tackle in their defense too.”
