Javares McRoy remains solid

When Urban Meyer resigned a few weeks ago several recruits took the news hard. Wide receiver Javares McCroy (5-9/165, Lakeland/Lakeland) was one of those players. In an interview with the Lakeland Ledger McRoy said that he was not sure what he was going to do and might open his recruitment back up.

McRoy, whose brother Ben plays for Texas Tech, was once committed to Texas Tech before making a switch to Florida over the summer.

On Wednesday McRoy got a visit from new head coach Will Muschamp at Lakeland High School. After the meeting McRoy says “the visit went well I am still committed to Florida.” When asked if his commitment was solid, McRoy replied. “Yes I am solid.”

Though most view McRoy as a slot receiver who can also run the ball, McRoy has his mind set on playing the outside receiver position to catch more deep balls. According to McRoy this is how coach Meyer planned to use him, and Muschamp told him that he also intends to use him in that fashion.

McRoy still plans to enroll early at Florida. “I will be leaving on the third to head to Gainesville.”

McRoy is the No. 27 ranked receiver according to ESPNU, but has been slowed by a turf toe injury for a majority of the season.

According to Maxpreps.com McRoy finished his senior season with 26 catches for 527 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also added 684 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 42 carries for an astounding 16.29 yards per carry average.

McRoy and Ju’Juan Story are the only committed Gator receivers, however Story has been wavering as of late. Like McRoy, a visit from Muschamp could change his mind.
