Henderson down to three schools: Florida Gators recruiting

ORLANDO, FL- The Florida Gators recruiting class only has one commit in the Under Armour All-American game but defensive back C.J. Henderson (6-1, 175, Miami, FL. Columbus) is a guy that has generated a lot of buzz from fans.

Henderson who is competing in the Under Armour game broke down his January official visit schedule.

“January 13th I’ll be visiting Alabama and then at the end I’ll be visiting Florida,” Henderson said. “I haven’t decided on which weekend yet. I’ll probably be deciding on National Signing Day or close to that.”

The Miami prospect has visited Gainesville several times but he says this official visit will be a little different.

“I really want to get the feel for it because I haven’t taken an official there yet,” Henderson said on what he wants to see during that visit. “They’ve been telling me to come in and make an early impact for them.”

Alabama can’t promise the early playing time but Henderson says they’re also selling a message to him.

“Alabama says to come in compete and be dominate,” Henderson said of Alabama’s message. “They say they will get me ready for the next level.”

Defensive backs coach Torrian Gray is not only pushing the early time to Henderson but also the fact that he can develop him into a good cornerback.

“Coach Gray just shows me the depth chart when I’m there,” Henderson said. “He says he knows what he can do with my physical tools and I’ve seen the history of what he’s done with his guys.”

Head coach Jim McElwain is also recruiting Henderson and it’s just one simple message from the Gators head man.

“I talk to Coach Mac a lot,” Henderson said. “He just tells me to come be a Gator.”

Henderson has said in the past that he was going to be watching who Florida hires at defensive coordinator, but he supports one coach currently on staff.

“I think Coach [Randy] Shannon would do great at defensive coordinator and I really don’t have a problem with him getting that role,” Henderson said. “Just like the rest of the players I think he would be good at but I’m going to be watching it closely.”

The one school that wasn’t mentioned above was Miami but the cornerback visited them earlier this month and those three schools now make up Henderson’s top three schools.

“I’m down to Miami, Florida and Alabama now,” Henderson said. “Miami and Florida the depth charts stand out

INSIDERS TAKE: Florida and Alabama are the two schools that have the best shot with Henderson right now with the Gators being the team that is most talked about. Henderson is close with Gators linebackers coach Randy Shannon.
