Harris excited to pick up a Florida Gators offer

The Florida Gators had a big need for linebackers heading into the class of 2017 and they filled those needs but they’re looking for more in 2018.

In the state of Florida, the number of big-time linebacker prospects is down so the Gators are looking out of state at several guys at the position.

Linebacker Michael Harris (6-2, 213, Tucker, GA. High) is one of the prospects and he picked up an offer from linebackers coach Tim Skipper over the weekend.

“Coach Skipper was the coach that told me,” Harris said on which coach offered from Florida. “We were talking on the phone and he told me that he watched my film and loved it. He said that all of the other coaches loved it and then he hit me with the big statement. He said that he would like to offer me a full scholarship to Florida.”

The news came out of nowhere for Harris and he says Skipper made him happy with the news of the offer.

“I was excited when he told me,” he said of what the offer means to him. “It means a lot to me. It shows me that my hard work is paying off and I’m a step closer to reaching my dreams. This is a big opportunity for me.”

Harris has never visited Florida before and wasn’t a big college football fan so he’s hoping to learn more about the Gators soon.

“I don’t know much about Florida because growing up I didn’t watch a lot of football,” Harris said. “I’m planning to get down there for a visit so that I can learn more about them and meet all of the coaches.”

One thing that Harris does know about Florida is that Skipper is someone he thinks he will like once he meets him.

“Coach Skipper he seems like he’s full energy,” he said of Skipper. “He’s a nice guy and I know that a lot of people like him. He seems like a guy that I can get cool with. We’re just now starting to talk and bond with each other.”

With so many offers coming in as of late, Harris says he has a few visits he wants to take this spring.

“I want to visit Florida, Ohio State, Vanderbilt, and Maryland,” Harris said of the schools he wants to visit. “I’m still keeping my options open and weighing everything right now.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Ohio State seems like the school that Harris likes the most but he’s very open in the process. Harris is a guy that can play any of the linebacker spots in college.
