Green feels good about the Florida Gators recruiting class

The Florida Gators recruiting class had six of its commits on campus this weekend for official visits and those six were trying to recruit four other targets that were on campus.

Receiver Daquon Green (6-1, 185, Tampa, FL. Tech) was one of those commits on campus but there wasn’t much that the receiver hadn’t seen from Florida since he’s been on campus so many times in the past.

“The official was real good and the only thing that was really new was that we hung out with the players more,” Green said of his Florida official visit. “They were telling us what it was like to wear those colors. My host was Josh Hammond and it was real good getting to hang out with him. I would rate the visit a 20 on a scale of one to ten.”

Hammond who is just a freshman now explained to Green how the adjustment from high school to college is and what he needs to do in order to play next year.

“He said it’s not hard to get used to being in college and that the big thing is keeping your head on straight,” he said of Hammond’s message to him. “I was picking up some of the things he was telling me. He said there are a lot of expectations and if you do what you have to do the playing time will be there.”

One of the things that stood out to Green was the Sunday morning visit to Florida Gators head coach Jim McElwain’s house where he got to do something out of the ordinary.

“We went by there on Sunday morning and had brunch,” Green said of his visit to McElwain’s house on Sunday. “We fed some horses that were in his neighborhood and we got to tour his place. He was at the house taking care of everyone. He had cooks over there and made French Toast Casserole and some eggs with cheese and bacon in it.”

While meeting with the staff, the coaches explained to Green how they see him fitting in next year at the receiver position.

“They are just real pumped up to get us there,” he said of the message on the 2017 class. “They did one on one visits with us and showed us their scheme and the plays they run and how we fit in. We are coming in hoping to do a lot for Florida. They said I can fit all the roles out wide and they rotate a lot of guys. They aren’t scared to play freshmen so I know I will have my time to shine.”

Since Green knew so much already about Florida he spent a lot of time trying to get to know his future teammates more.

“We have a connection and have gotten real close and see eye to eye,” Green said on his relationship with Zach Carter. “ I am close with Zach [Carter] and Malik [Davis], but I got closer with Jake [Allen], T.J. [Moore], and I hung out with Elijah [Conliffe] and the other T.J. [Slaton].”

Green and the other five commits spent a lot of time this weekend working on the other targets and the receiver feels good about Florida’s chances with those guys.

“I think we have a good chance of pulling them and we were after them all,” he said of the rest of the visitors. “I think Nick Smith and T.J. Slaton were having the best time, I think we get Chris Henderson too. They need to make that move.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Green says a trip to Tennessee is possible but I don’t see that visit happening and even if it does, it would take a miracle for the receiver to change from Florida. Green has been recruiting hard for the Gators since he committed in the summer of 2015.
