Gators Recruiting Mailbag: 1.31.13

In this week’s edition of the Maibag, GC’s Andrew Spivey discusses the Gators’ chances at several late commitments with National Signing Day fast approaching.

Spivey also answers questions on Jalen Ramsey, surprise visitors and remaining potential transfers from Florida.

Q.) Are we done signing more recruits? Would the staff be happy with what we have now?
A.) Sure they would be happy, but they aren’t done signing prospects for this class.

Q.) Are we a legitimate contender for Junior college QB Tanner McEvoy?
A.) Yes. West Virginia has cooled on him some, and Florida and Wisconsin have moved right in. This weekend is big for him.

Q.) Will Tanner McEvoy, qb be in this class from Jr. College?
A.) Yes, I believe so as of today.

Q.) Any “new” news on Jalen Ramsey? Everything seems quiet from USC, FSU, and UF in regards to his recruitment. Each school seems optimistic on landing him
A.) Agreed, everyone feels comfortable with him, but Florida sends the staff in-home with him tomorrow.

Q.) When are Champ, Jimbo, and Kitten going in house with Ramsey? Who sets the order? Any advantage to going last, like in visits?
A.) Jimbo went in-home either on Wednesday and Kiffin went in-home on Tuesday. Muschamp goes in-home on Thursday.

Q.) Will we be able to get any more defensive tackles/ends?
A.) Yes, at least one more defensive tackle and maybe another end, but that’s not a sure thing.

Q.) I saw a story were Alexander has decided to not include his brother in his commitment anymore. Does this change anything with us or has he been completely ruled out now as an option?
A.) No, Alexander hasn’t visited since last summer, and Florida hasn’t had much contact with him lately.

Q.) How many prosepects r we still recruiting?
A.) Close to 10.

Q.) Bostwick, Ramsey, Swanson, Reed and Clark, of these recruits who do you think are in the 2013 class?
A.) Bostwick, Ramsey and Clark in my opinion are all in the class as of today.

Q.) Is Ira Denson coming to visit this weekend?
A.) No, he may visit Miami though.

Q.) Andrew, who will be our final 7 commits?
A.) Right now, I feel good saying Ramsey, Bostwick and Clark will be in the class.

Q.) Is Riles going to remain committed to the Gators?
A.) I believe so, yes. He says he is 100 percent committed.

Q.) Andrew, do you expect any more transfers?
A.) Not right now, no.

Q.) Do you expect any signing day “defections”?
A.) Not from Florida I don’t.

Q.) Anyone that may sign that we don’t know about?
Like Andraedes last year?
A.) Possibly, yes.

Q.) Are you expecting any signing day shockers? Good or bad?
A.) Yes, good for Florida.

Q.) I see the coaches visited some 2014 prospects in Calif. Over the years have it been worth the effort expended to recruit calif? that is unless the kid has some fla connection seems unlikely he comes to fla 9esp when usc and ucla are right up the road). IYO would the effort be more rewarded working So fl harder. Any why is it so hard to get So fl kids? i mean SCUM has not been strong for awhile.
A.) The Gators haven’t had a coach with strong ties to the area since Charlie Strong left Florida. South Florida guys want someone they trust and know well.

Q.) Do we still have that big time surprise silent.. If so does he play offense or defense?
A.) Never said there was a silent. I said a surprise visitor, and yes that’s still in play.

Q.) On a scale of 1 to 10 how tired are you of answering questions about Ira Denson?
A.) One thousand. Lol, he has kept a topic on the message board that’s for sure.

Q.) How many surprise visitors do you expect this weekend.
A.) Possibly two.

Q.) Wouldn’t it have been easier to just repost the questions from the last 4 weeks and include a McEvoy update with them? Does it become frustrating to answer the same question 9 different ways week after week (betting that how some of the recruits feel right about now)?
A.) Naw, I’m always up for answering questions from you guys.
