Gators Recruiting Mailbag: 1.02.13

In this week’s edition of the Maibag, GC’s Andrew Spivey breaks down the Gators’ push to land another receiver in the 2013 class.

Spivey also answers questions on Florida’s class size, 2014 prospects and whether the Gators could see some surprises on signing day.

Q.) Which day in the next week will we hear some more BOOMs? by Sunday? Monday? as late as Tuesday?
A.) Demarcus Robinson is set to announce on Saturday, so if he is going to give Florida fans a BOOM then it will happen on Saturday.

Q.) Who is getting commiting at the All-American games that Florida has a shot at?
A.) Just Demarcus Robinson.

Q.) If Florida lands Robinson are they done at receiver?
A.) Yes, they are.

Q.) Best guess as to the total # of committments in the class when all is said and done.
A.) Excluding Tyler Moore, I think 29. That would mean adding five more to the class.

Q.) Can we give ” Zo ” a gold star?
A.) I honestly don’t understand the gold star or how to give someone one, but if someone will tell me I’ll hook him up.

Q.) Andrew, here is my perspective on the balance of the class, what do you think?
RB- Alex Collins or Ryan Green: expectation no one
WR- Demarcus Robinson or Laquon Treadwell: expectation Robinson
TE- Durham Smythe? Anyone?: expectation none
DL- Montravius Adams, Demarcus Walker, Elijah Daniel: expectation Daniel and Walker
CB- Jalen Ramsey or Mackensie Alexander: expectation none

A.) RB-I agree I don’t see another one right now.
WR-I agree again.
TE-I agree again barring something crazy I don’t think a tight end is in this class.
DL-I agree with what you have but add a defensive tackle into the mix.
CB-I highly disagree with you here. I feel very good about saying a cornerback will be in this class.

Q.) Will this be better than the 2006 recruiting class that won 2 National Championships and produced the most winningest senior class in Florida history?
A.)That’s very tough to say that was arguably one of the best classes ever in the history of college football and was loaded was NFL players. I will say that coming out of high school this class should be very — and I mean very good — but let’s wait until we see them in college before comparing them to the 2006 class.

Q.) What’s the chances we pull Robinson, Walker and Daniels?
A.) Very good chance. If Daniel maintains everything he has been doing and keeps his grades up like they are now then I believe he will be a Gator.

Q.) 2014 Leornard Fournette
Cam Robinson
Speedy Noil
Gerald Willis
Chances here

A.) Florida trails LSU for Fournette but by how much is yet to be determined. He is suppose to visit Florida this spring or for a junior day so let’s see if he shows up. With Robinson and Noil I think Florida is fighting a tough uphill battle for those guys right now. With Gerald Willis, Florida is in good shape but like it was with his brother Landon Collins it will be a battle to the end with LSU.

Q.) What do you expect the total, number wise, for the 2013 class will be?
A.) Twenty-nine is what I think as of today. That would mean adding five more guys.

Q.) Is Caleb Brantley physically ready to contribute meaningful minutes as a true freshman? Which WR commits have the ability to stretch the field and are ready to see the field from Day 1? Thanks
A.) I think Brantley losing some of his bad weight will allow him to play some meaningful snaps next season but how many will be determined in fall practice. Ahmad Fulwood and Alvin Bailey I believe will see playing time next fall.

Q.) Who is more likely? Green or Collins at RB? If they both want in who gets the nod?
A.) I don’t think neither go to Florida, but if one did, it would be Alex Collins.

Q.) Matt Rolin says there are going to be a few surprises is he talking about the two we already know about or are there more?
A.) He is talking about one that we have talked about, but he is working on a few other prospects there in Orlando.

Q.) Do you believe after the Noles beat NI in the orange bowl that the noles are finally back?
A.) LOL, no I don’t. They have a tough uphill battle to get back in the top group of teams in the country.

Q.) Are we waiting to see what Adams does before giving Jaynard Bostwick a committable offer or does he have one now?
A.) Bostwick has one now.

Q.) Is there anyone that we don’t know about that could be a surprise on NSD?
A.) Yes, there is one prospect who is being evaluated and talked to a lot that would surprise some people right now.
