Florida Gators recruiting offensive line commit Jawaan Taylor (6-4, 345, Cocoa, FL. High) took his official to Gainesville two weekends ago and he described the visit to GatorCountry on Monday.
“It was a lot of fun, I got to go up last weekend and meet all of the coaches,” Taylor said of his official visit on January 15th. “I got to meet the players too and it was fun. It feels like home up there and I can’t wait to be up there.”
Offensive line coach Mike Summers has been the main coach in the Florida Gators recruiting of Taylor and the two got to talk about the future during the official visit.
“Coach Summers told me to keep the weight down as much as I can,” he said. “He said to keep working hard and be ready to go when I get up there. He said that he needs me to be ready and that I’m going to start out at guard next year. He said that I could maybe move to tackle in the future.”
Most linemen that Summers’ recruits say that they have a great relationship with the coach, and Taylor tells the same story.
“Coach Summers and I have a great relationship with each other and he always comes down to see me,” Taylor said. “We stay in touch with each other almost every day and we just have a great relationship with each other.”
When Florida Gators head coach Jim McElwain met with Taylor, the head coach wanted to get a better feel for Taylor’s family and the Taylor family liked McElwain.
“My parents wanted to meet with Coach McElwain and Coach wanted to see where their mind was at too,” he said. “Coach McElwain and I have a great relationship with each other and he really connected with my family too. My parents loved him and they said that they can’t wait for me to be a part of his program and for me to be on the Florida Gators team.”
The Florida Gators recruiting commit also had the chance to hang out with several players at Florida and he has already started a good relationship with several linemen on campus.
“I hung with Brandon Sandifer, Fred Johnson, Martez Ivey, Chauncey Gardner who was my teammate at Cocoa and I got to hang out with David Sharpe,” Taylor said. “I was really with the offensive linemen most of the time and I think I have a pretty good bond with those guys so far.”
Last week the Georgia Bulldogs offered Taylor and were trying to get him on campus, but that doesn’t look like it will happen.
“I’m very solid on Florida,” he said. “I’m 100 percent to Florida and I’m thinking about closing down my recruitment and not taking a visit to Georgia. I know that Florida is coming down to see me this week too.”
INSIDERS TAKE: I don’t think Taylor visits Georgia this weekend, as he’s very solid to the Gators and is a big part of the Florida Gators recruiting class. Taylor has the size to be a really good guard at the next level and he still moves well for a bigger lineman.
nice to see a kid that actually understands what committed means. somebody ought to explain that to Mr. Joseph (Miami Norland) . UF is his home but, but, he will decide between Bama and UF on signing day. what a joke. please tell me that UF is not actually going to be stupid enough to pay for Mr. Uche and his family to eat steak and lobster/crab legs after he committed to Michigan this past Saturday!! just take his name off the visitor list. Coach Mac needs to learn when to move on. will he be sending 3 or 4 coaches to Uche’s home today as well??!!!? kids in Florida need to learn what loyalty to the home state means. tell them to research the Louisiana kids. 8, soon to be 9, of the Top 10 kids in football are staying and playing at LSU. UF, FSU, and Miami used to have the same devotion. just not anymore. Wilson, Fulton, just playing with us as well.
