Florida Gators: Recruiting Mailbag October 30th

This week’s Florida Gators recruiting mailbag is full of questions about the state of recruiting in regards to Florida.

A lot of questions have to do with how many of the current commits will remain in the class and how much the rest of the season will affect the class.

Without further comment here’s this week’s mailbag

Macbgator: Who is left on our LB board that we have a real chance to sign in spite of our coaching situation?

AS:  I don’t think you can rule out anyone due to the coaching situation at this time. I do think it will be tough to get a guy like Jerome Baker back in the fold.

Macbgator: Will we allow Houshon Gaines back into the fold to commit?

AS: I don’t think so right now but maybe later in the process towards national signing day.

Ol2ange: Any other future decommitments to come?

AS: I honestly don’t think so but the real test will be if a coaching happens and if that happens than all bets are off.

Ol2agne: How is our WR board looking right now?

AS: If any position is suffering more than any other than its the receiver position, because players are waiting to see what happens with Kurt Roper and the staff, plus how Treon Harris looks at quarterback in the coming weeks.

Ol2ange: Do you think UF picks up a RB this cycle? If not Dexter Williams, who?

AS: I think Florida will get one in this class but really it’s tough to say who at this point because of the way things are with the coaching staff.

Animagator: Does it hurt our recruiting that we have so many fans that eat their own and are ugly and stupid about it; none of whom, thank God, post here?

AS: Recruits see it but I highly doubt they make a life decision over what a fan says about the team or a player.

Swampie: Are we going to loose CeCe Jefferson , have you been in contact with him since his Ole Miss visit and is Byron Cowart going to visit. This news ripped my heart out. We better do something fast.

AS: I’ve talked to both of them and while they like Ole Miss and Alabama respectively, I still got the feeling that they were Florida Gators leans and that they were just waiting to see what happened at season’s end.

Macbgator: Who are the juco recruits we have a good chance to sign?

AS: Really, Florida is just now hitting the JUCO ranks as they look for offensive and defensive linemen and maybe even a receiver so right now there really isn’t one in particular that I would say Florida leads for. Florida is in good shape for JUCO corner Justin Martin as he likes Florida, Tennessee and LSU a lot. He has 3 years left to play.

Macbgator: Andrew, why don’t the top recruits go ahead and commit if they want to be in a top notch class and bring the guys into this class that will make them a possible championship team in the future? They could form a bond now that would carry over the years that they would become champs as teammates!

AS: They are doing that off the field in a lot of ways but committing right now for those big name guys isn’t something that would be smart. I say that because with the uncertainty with the staff they need to make sure it’s someone they like.

Stuckupnorthgator: Are most of our “top targets” waiting until the coaching situation sorts it’s self out to make their decisions?

AS: From what they are telling me I say, yes, that’s the case and I really don’t blame them.

Mikegator: Ivey?????? Ivey??????? Ivey??????

AS: I think Florida is in decent shape with Martez Ivey considering the circumstances surrounding the program.

Genesis: Hypothetically speaking, if we were to hire a new HC, is there one in particular that you think could somewhat salvage this class? Which potential hire do think would absolutely kill it on the recruiting trail here at UF?

AS: I honestly have no clue at this point and really haven’t even begun to think about that. I think whoever comes in must have a good offensive background to show these top guys that the Florida Gators can score points.

  1. There’s a saying in the Navy: “Hurry up and wait.” Absolutely nothing is happening good for the Gators in recruiting until there’s some clarity about this staff. That will be cleared up after this weekend if UF loses to Georgia. Then it will be a matter of waiting to see who the new coach is and who will make up his staff. If he’s a good salesman, UF still has a chance with guys like Ivey, Cowart, and Jefferson. I get the feeling they are all dying to be Gators, but it’s hard to stand the ridicule they would be subjected to if they chose Florida now. They need something, anything, to show their peers that they have not gone off the deep end by choosing UF. There’s also the possibility that the new staff can bring guys with them that are loyal to them, not the school they were considering or committed to.

  2. there are 35 guys in RIVALS out of Florida committed elsewhere , there are zero committed to gators in Rivals top 100 nation wide, this is yet another low point for UF another negative record that we have reached and achieved under this HC……..beating UGA like we did was sweet , however it could be lethal for our future , is impossible to come back from the lows we got ourselves into , just way too deep —7-4 ( if we beat SC )——is just not good enough to override the last 1.5 years , however if they ride to 8/4 and beat FSU then we have no choice but to give WM another year , having said that SOMEBODY has to answer why a team that looked buried would accomplish running the table , and the response would be easy then the Q would be WHY ON EARTH DID WM WAIT THAT LONG ???
