Florida Gators make offer to space eating instate DT

The Florida Gators have a huge need for defensive tackles in the class of 2017 after not signing one in the 2016 class.

On Monday the Gators took a step forward in that department as defensive line coach Chris Rumph offered Jordon Scott (6-1, 345, Largo, FL Pinellas Park) over the phone.

“Coach Rumph was the coach that offered me today [Monday],” Scott said. “Coach Rumph was telling me that everybody loved my film and when I went to camp last year that I showed them what I was about. He said that he was offering me a full ride to Florida.”

Scott, who has been waiting on this offer for sometime now, was relieved and happy to hear the news from Rumph on Monday.

“I’m speechless, I really don’t know what to say right now,” he said of what the offer means to him. “I’m excited to get the offer and it means a lot to me. Not only is it SEC but they’re my home town team.”

Last week Gators’ offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier was by Scott’s school and they talked about the potential offer.

“Coach Nussmeier actually came by my school last week,” Scott said. “That night he told me to be patient and give him some time that Florida was going to offer me soon. We talk a lot actually, so he knew that I was getting a little restless about not getting the offer.”

Scott, who is a space eating, high motor defensive tackle has been told about how he will fit into the Gators defense if he chooses Florida.

“Florida runs some 3-4 and 4-3 some I would play some nose, defensive tackle and some 3 technique when they rotate,” Scott said of where he would fit in at. “They said that I would play all over the line inside. Coach Rumph told me that they’re only taking three defensive tackles this year.”

Last summer Scott was in Gainesville and he got the chance to work one-on-one with Rumph and he liked how that time went.

“When I went up to the camp last summer I was able to work with Coach Rumph, I like the way he coaches,” he said. “He’s not too strict but he’s a nice and cool. He coaches hard but he’s a joking guy. He knows what he’s doing.”

Despite waiting on the offer Scott says that he doesn’t have anyone leading, but the Gators are a team on his mind.

“Everybody is equal right now for me,” Scott said. “I like Florida though. I’m enrolling early so I plan on being committed by December 25th and I’m going to take some unofficial visits this summer. I’ll go to Florida for one.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Scott has a high motor for a guy his size and is someone that can cause problems on the interior of the line. Florida is a school that he has wanted an offer from so the Gators should be a team in this until the end.

    • Florida State just offered recently and most schools were waiting to see how he moved this spring. I rank Solomon slightly higher on the board but both are good players.
