Davis knows he’s a priority for the Florida Gators

The Florida Gators not only put a spanking on Eastern Michigan last Saturday but they also were able to showcase the new offense to prospects around the country as they look to gain momentum on the recruiting trail.

One prospect that was watching closely was North Carolina athlete commit Javarius Davis (5-10, 173, Jacksonville, FL Ed White) who liked what he saw from the Florida Gators’ new offense.

“It was very good, I was watching it very closely,” Davis said. “They had a lot of explosive, big plays. I liked it a lot, it was pretty much what Coach [Kurt] Roper has been telling me it was going to be like.”

Davis has been told by Florida that he will play the slot receiver and some running back, so on Saturday the North Carolina commit paid close attention to one player in particular on Florida’s offense.

“They’ve been telling me that I would play where Latroy Pittman plays so I was watching him close,” Davis said. “I think I fit that role very well. I’m a big playmaker, that’s what I do. I know that I’ll have to continue to work hard but I feel like I can play that spot well.”

Davis wasn’t on campus for the whopping on Saturday but two weeks ago he was in town for what was suppose the season opener.

“It was a fun time that day even though it was rained out,” Davis said. “I had a good time and the environment was great out there. The fans stayed through the rain and everything.”

September 1st was a big day for senior prospects as college coaches could finally call them and Will Muschamp made sure to make Davis feel like a priority.

“Coach Muschamp called me the first day he could,” Davis said. “He said he was sorry about the game being rained out but that he wanted me to come back for the Kentucky game. He said that the Gators really want me and he wanted to know how my season was going too.”

In late July Davis made his pledge to the Tar Heels but has since flirted with the Florida Gators. While he is still committed, he’s in no rush to make any kind final of decision.

“I’m committed to North Carolina but I’m still looking at Florida,” Davis said. “I’m just taking my time with everything right now.”

Florida will hope to speed up his process this weekend however as they will play host to him before he heads to Carolina the following weekend.

“I’m going to visit Florida this weekend for the Kentucky game,” Davis said. “I’m taking an official visit to North Carolina the week after that. I probably won’t take an official to Florida until after the season is over.”

INSIDER TAKE: Davis taking his official to North Carolina so early is big for Florida because the Gators will have their official still in their back pocket plus they will host him shortly after the game for the LSU game.
