Davis Plugs Leak; Loves New Gators Offense

The Florida Gators hosted an unexpected but big visitor on Thursday in receiver Ryan Davis (5-10, 161, St. Petersburg, FL Lakewood) who was with his family during the visit. “It was great, great as always,” Davis said. “It’s always a good time when I come to visit Florida. I visited with my dad and Dante Fowler’s family but this visit was really about dad getting to see everything and getting to meet everyone. He liked it up there.” This was also Davis’ first time to see offensive coordinator Kurt Roper’s offense in action and Davis was impressed by what he witnessed during Thursday’s practice. “I love the offense out there,” Davis said. “I love what Coach Roper is doing with it. Fast pace, up-tempo and getting out in space. I like how they run a lot of route combinations and they get the best players the ball in space. Really they showed me exactly what kind of offense I like.” This time last year Davis was watching an offense that was boring under Brent Pease, but the receiver says it’s a night and day difference between the two years. “I definitely see a difference from last year,” Davis said. “It’s more quick and fast and more passing. They are going more vertical this year and they are also running a lot of screens. I didn’t see a ton of play-action like they did last year but really it’s not even close to last year’s offense.” Florida had a coaching change at receiver a few months ago but Davis was one of the first players Chris Leak called when he was promoted and that relationship, plus Davis’ relationship with the Florida Gators has grown. “I talk to Coach Leak a lot and to Coach Roper,” Davis said. “I talk to Coach Muschamp just about every day so it’s good. I feel like I’ve got a very good relationship with Florida.” Davis has been hinting at naming a top five for sometime now but he says that he will likely just take visits and not announce a top group. “Not really a top 5,” Davis said. “I’m going to have my official visits and that will be my top 5. I know I’m taking officials to Florida, Florida State and Maryland. The other two officials I don’t know yet.” George Campbell and Byron Cowart made news last week by saying they were going to announce soon and Davis is following their pattern as he says a decision could come at anytime. “If I early enroll then I’m going to decide and then take my officials,” Davis said. “I’m close to deciding but I don’t have a date in mind just yet.”   INSIDER TAKE: I think Florida has taken the lead for Ryan Davis because of his relationship with the coaching staff plus the Florida Gators are showing him more “love” then Florida State right now. Getting Davis’ father on campus was big for the Gators as well.   For all the latest in Florida Gator recruiting news, join Gator Country today!

  1. I’d think Davis is coming to Gainesville. Even though he’s the younger brother of a former Seminole, I don’t see a space for him at FSU with them probably getting George Campbell and Da’vante Phillips and having two other receivers pledged already.
