Dante Fowler’s cousin receives Gators offer

Last week Florida sent coaches to several spring games including receiver Ryan Davis’ (5-10, 161, St. Petersburg, FL Lakewood) spring game.

After running backs coach Brian White watched Davis go through his spring game he made a quick call to two Gators coaches and later gave Davis some good news.

“Coach White offered me on Thursday night,” Davis said. “Coach White came by our spring game and afterwards he offered me. Florida has been evaluating me for a while now but after he watched my spring game he talked to Coach [Will] Muschamp and Coach [Joker] Phillips about me and he informed my 7-on-7 coach that they were offering me a scholarship.”

Davis plays multiple positions at Lakewood high school but he says that White told him that the Gators want him at one position but that he could possibly see action at another position as well.

“Coach White said that they were offering me as a receiver,” Davis said. “Coach White also said that they want me to play some wildcat quarterback in the spread offense too. Coach White said that he liked me as a quarterback and that he thought I could play both positions well.”

While White sees Davis playing both positions in the Gators offense, Florida’s receiver coach Joker Phillips agrees and says that Davis reminds him a former player that used to play both positions and later went onto the NFL.

“I usually talk to Coach White and Coach Phillips from Florida,” Davis said. “Coach Joker said that he loved my film and that I was a playmaker and that I was a winner. Coach Joker said that I reminded him of Randall Cobb from Kentucky.”

Davis says this is big offer to him and the Gators have a little advantage in regards to the receiver’s recruitment because his cousin is a member of the Florida football team already.

“Dante [Fowler] is actually my cousin and we are pretty close,” Davis said. “He could play a factor into my decision but not a huge factor. Dante knows the program and the ropes around there so he can tell me a lot about the program and the direction they are going in.”

Despite the connection to Florida, Davis he says that everyone is equal right now as he waits to see if anymore offers will come in.

“Everybody is still pretty even right now,” Davis said. “I’m just waiting on spring to be over and see what other offers I get and then start the process of evaluating everyone.”

Next up for Davis will be several visits this summer and he believes one of those visits will take him to Gainesville to see Florida.

“This summer Florida is going to be one of my visits for sure,” Davis said. “I want to see a lot of places this summer.”
