2016 receiver picks up a Florida offer

Will Muschamp’s football camp is a great way for the Gator coaching staff to evaluate young talent and get ahead of the game.

On Saturday the Florida Gators offered 2016 Naples (Fla.) High receiver Tyler Byrd following his impressive camp performance.

“After camp was over they told me to go to coach (Will) Muschamp’s office,” Byrd said. “He said he wants me to come to Florida and he  said you have the chance to now because here’s your offer to Florida. It’s great to get the offer because it’s a childhood dream and they were my favorite school growing up even though all of my family grew up Florida State fans. So this makes it double special to me because this was my first offer too.”

The 5-foot-11, 160-pound Byrd plays both cornerback and receiver in high school and on Saturday he worked with both position coaches.

“I got to work with coach (Joker) Phillips and coach (Travaris) Robinson on Saturday,” Byrd said. “Coach T-Rob is an energetic guy and he gets everyone pumped up. Coach Phillips is a serious guy and he keeps everything loose but he is also a good coach and points out your mistakes but also points out what you’re doing right too.”

For Byrd, he says that the Gators are recruiting him for both receiver and cornerback but he feels better at corner.

Byrd says he will visit Florida again this summer as well as this fall for a game.
