2014 DT Russell picks up Florida offer

While Florida is still looking for another defensive tackle in the Class of 2013, the staff has also already turned their attention to recruiting 2014 defensive tackles.

During the last week of the recruiting period, 2014 Carrollton (Ga.) High defensive tackle Dontavius Russell picked up an offer from the Gators.

“Coach (Will) Muschamp stopped by my school while he was in Georgia,” Russell said. “I was very surprised and excited about the offer from the University of Florida. And having the actual head coach of Florida come by and do it and getting a chance to meet him made it even better for me.”

The 6-foot-3, 298-pound Russell admits that he doesn’t know very much about Florida at this time, because he has never visited the Gators.

However, Russell does know about the defense that Muschamp puts out on the field.

“I really like the way Florida plays defense,” Russell said. “They play very fast and aggressive, which is something I like about them. But I don’t know that much more about Florida yet to say what I like or don’t like about them at this time.”

Russell is a Georgia native but the school he said he has liked since his childhood isn’t the home team Georgia Bulldogs.

“Florida has been a school I’ve liked since I was younger,” Russell said. “I don’t have any leaders right now, but I would to be a part of the Gators’ program.”

While Russell has never visited the Gainesville, he said that will change for him soon.

“I plan on visiting Florida,” Russell said. “As soon as I get a chance to visit them, I’m going too. Hopefully it will be soon.”
