Thomas plans Florida Gators basketball visit

Coach Mike White and staff have put together an impressive recruiting class for the 2017 cycle, but they’re still after one highly touted recruit, Lance Thomas, a power forward from Norcross, GA listed at 6-feet-10 inches tall and 210 pounds.

The Georgia native has a top list of four schools: Florida, Miami, Louisville, and Southern California. He plans on taking his official visits to all four schools.

“I’m going to Florida on September 9th, and then Miami on September 15th,” Thomas told Gator Country.

Thomas then will take a few weeks off before visiting Louisville and USC in late October.

His relationship with Coach Mike White is tremendous and an obvious reason for his interest. Thomas has had a busy off-season with tournaments and events, but Coach White has been there for each one.

“Coach White is the only coach, besides Coach Enfield from USC, to attend every game in July,” Thomas said. “I feel like high priorities for those two schools.”

During Billy Donovan’s tenure, and even in the young career of Mike White, Florida has had forwards that can stretch the floor. For example, Dorian Finney-Smith, Erik Murphy, and Chandler Parsons come to mind in recent years. Tall bodies who can play down low, but also have the skill to step outside and hit the jumper. Thomas has the ability to stretch the defense out and score from all areas of the floor.

“On the court? The 3 spot (small forward),” Thomas said when asked where Florida envisions him. He mentioned how he is still growing and developing into his body but playing the four wouldn’t be an issue.

Thomas will announce about a week after his final visit and as of now, he doesn’t have a leader.
