Gators Offer Yet Another 2024 Five-Star

Florida has continued their aggressive recruiting in the 2024 class putting out an offer to point guard Boogie Fland. A five star, Fland is currently the 11th ranked player in the class.

Todd Golden is going for a massive class in 2024, so let’s do a quick roll call of all the top-50 players that he has extended an offer to:

Naas Cunningham (3rd)

Flory Bidunga (4th)

Dylan Harper (5th)

Asa Newell (6th)

Boogie Fland (11th)

Liam McNeely (22nd)

David Castillo (25th)

Ryan Jones (38th)

Dedan Thomas (39th)

Jahki Howard (47th)

Peyton Marshall (48)

Listed as a combo forward according to 247 Sports, Florida has now offered the top three shooting guards in 2024 with Fland alongside Dedan Thomas and Dylan Harper. Florida is still involved with everyone on this list with the exception of Liam McNeely who omitted Florida when talking about the top five schools he was involved with in a recent interview with On3.

Combo guard is the perfect way to describe Fland (born Johnuel, but he goes by Boogie) who has talent with the ball in his hands but is probably best away from the ball catching in scoring situations where he can instantly attack or pull the trigger from deep. Fland hails from White Plains, New York and you can tell that he has a bit of the city game that defines his style. There is nothing subtle about Fland’s game–he is loud on the court, he plays with physicality, and he plays with flash. Even his chosen name of “Boogie” exudes some of the confidence that he plays with.

Right now Fland’s best skill is the pull up jumper, something he can get too pretty well as a slippery 6’3” guard. Always active away from the ball to make himself open enough to get it, when it’s reversed to him he’s instantly in attack mode and he loves the combination of a jab one way into a drive the other way ending in a pull up.

While Fland has a flair for the dramatic and loves to play a flashy game he certainly doesn’t cheat the game. Fland is known for the long hours he spends watching film of himself, his team, and opponents, and he has a reputation for coming to coaches with scouting reports of players on opposing teams and how he thinks they should be guarded.

An area for growth for Fland is his strength as he becomes more of a downhill player that can finish at the rim. While his pull up game is deadly he can sometimes be too reliant on it as opposed to getting all the way to the rim. However, even as someone who doesn’t finish at the rim often he’s a highly rated, highly regarded recruit with NBA upside that could make college teams extremely happy.

Something interesting about Fland is that he already has had a fairly lucrative NIL deal as a high school student with a company called Spreadshop, and you could see him making several posts about his affiliation on his social media feeds.

A big personality, Fland has been quite open with his recruitment and the fact that he is far from making a decision. North Carolina is considered to be one of the favorites with Auburn, UConn, and Florida State also considered to be up there. There will be plenty of time left in his recruitment for the Gators to get into the mix, so them not being considered a favorite yet after just recently offering him isn’t anything to be concerned with.

Todd Golden hasn’t been shy about putting out the offers and recruiting elite kids, and it almost feels like just a matter of time before they start landing a few of them.
