Florida hoops rises in rankings

After beating Kentucky and Auburn last week by a combined total of 48 points, the Florida hoops team re-entered the top-5 in both The Associated Press Top 25 and USA Today Coaches polls.

Florida jumped from No. 7 to No. 5 in the AP poll, while it made the jump from No. 6 to No. 4 in the coaches poll and received two first-place votes.

The Gators come in behind No. 1 Indiana, No. 2 Miami, No. 3 Gonzaga and No. 4 Michigan State in the AP poll, while the coaches have the Spartans behind UF in their poll.

Florida has remained steady in the RPI rankings, checking in at No. 4, while its strength of schedule is rated as the 23rd best in the nation.

Moving from facts to opinion (or educated guessing), ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has the Gators currently slotted as a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament, slotting the Gators to head the West region.

Florida faces one of its tougher stretches on paper this week. The Gators will take on a tough Missouri squad on the road on Tuesday before returning home on Saturday to face off against Arkansas — the only team to beat them in SEC play this season.
