Florida Gators basketball visits Jalen Johnson

Last week was the first time this fall that Florida Gators basketball coach Mike White and his staff could go out on the road recruiting and they wasted no time in getting to a lot of their big targets.

One prospect they visited last week was guard/forward Jalen Johnson (6-6, 170, High Point, NC Westleyan Christian Academy) who had two Florida Gators basketball coaches at his school.

“Coach White and Coach [Darris] Nicholls just came to a work out of mine last week,” Johnson said. “We talked for a little bit and we just talked about what they saw from the work out. They said that they saw some good things from my workout.”

When White was watching Johnson during his workout, the Gators coach saw something that impressed him according to the 2016 prospect.

“Coach White said they he saw some good things from me shooting the ball,” he said. “Coach White said that he thought I shot the ball better than what he expected and that I looked good. He said that my ball handling had gotten better and that he was excited to see me.”

This was the first time for Johnson to meet and talk to both Florida Gators basketball coaches and he left impressed by White.

“I liked Coach White, he seemed like a good coach,” Johnson said. “[He] Seems like a good dude and I think he will do good with his system at Florida. He was telling me a little bit about his system during the visit too. He said that they are going be of a more up-tempo style of offense.”

Johnson had scheduled an official visit to Florida for earlier in September but that was pushed back and now a new date is in the works for an official visit for Johnson and Florida.

“We might be taking an official visit to Florida on September 25-27,” he said. “But right now we’re still working on it because I have some family plans that weekend that we are trying to reschedule or move. That’s when Florida would like for me to come down there on a visit.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Johnson officially visits Providence this weekend and after that he will take an official visit to Texas Tech in October. That is all he has planned at this time. Florida is the team that is hot on his mind at this point though.
