Class of 2013 prospect Kennedy Meeks is one of the most highly sought after juniors in the nation. With scholarship offers from Xavier, Tennessee, North Carolina State, Florida State and Georgetown, among more than a dozen others, the West Charlotte center’s recruitment is heating up.
The Florida Gators are among the 6-foot-8, 280-pound prospect’s scholarship offer list.
Although Meeks has yet to visit Florida, he and his family are working out the details for a trip to Gainesville.
“My family is working on it,” Meeks said. “I believe we are working on it. Coach [Norm] Roberts is talking with my family about it, but I’m not sure when it will be, though.”
For now, it’s the Gators’ tournament run that has caught the eye of the junior from Charlotte, N.C.
“Seeing them in the tournament, you can tell they have been working hard this season and hard work pays off,” Meeks said.
“[I’m looking] at how they react off-the-court during timeouts, how the coaches talk to them and how they communicate with each other,” he added.
Despite significant interest from several schools and having visited schools, Meeks claims no school has separated itself.
“Everybody is about the same,” Meeks said. “I’m just taking everything in. I’ll probably make my list in about a couple of weeks.”
Meeks added that the list would consist of anywhere from five to 10 teams.
As far as the NCAA Tournament goes, Meeks believes an underdog will prevail.
“I have a good feeling that N.C. State will take it home,” Meeks said. “They are just playing well right now, especially with C.J. Leslie.”
