Hodskins will walk on at UF

Saturday wasn’t a great day for Florida football fans but Saturday evening the Gators basketball team picked up a commitment from shooting guard Zach Hodskins (6-2, 175 Milton, GA High) who was on the Gainesville campus on Saturday for an unofficial visit.

“I’ve officially committed to the University of Florida basketball. I know God has put me in the right place #GatorNation,” Hodskins said Twitter.

Hodskins received an offer from Billy Donovan to join the Florida basketball team in 2014 as a preferred walk-on back in April. His is an inspirational story as he was born with a birth defect that left him with only one hand. One arm extends to just below the elbow.

That hasn’t stopped him from playing basketball at a high level for one of Georgia’s consistently strong high school programs. As a junior last year at Milton, Hodskins averaged 11.3 points per game while playing shooting guard.

Hodskins joins point guard guard Chris Chiozza and combo guard Brandone Francis in Florida’s recruiting class of 2014.
