Preview

Florida and Miami come into this game off of tough losses against ranked opponents in the second round of the AdvoCare Invitational. The Hurricanes suffered their first loss of the season to No. 21 Iowa State 73-56. Miami returns just two starters from a team that made it to the Sweet-16 of the NCAA Tournament last season before losing to eventual National Champion, Villanova.

The Gators also suffered their first loss of the season in disappointing fashion to No. 11 Gonzaga on Friday. Florida gave up a 37-32 halftime advantage and came up short in the 77-72 loss. A day after playing just 11 minutes before fouling out, Devin Robinson played a season-high 34 minutes without committing a foul. He put up a team-leading and career-high 18 points on the night, but it still wasn’t enough to get Florida’s offense going. The Gators were just 2-for-19 from beyond the arc against the Bulldogs, but did finish 22-for-24 (91.7%) from the foul line.

The Hurricanes are led by two double-digit scorers, Ja’Quan Newton (17.6) and Davon Reed (11.2). Miami’s biggest three-point threat comes off the bench. DJ Vasiljevic is 11-for-25 (44%) from three-point range this season.

Florida holds a 45-24 all-time record over Miami, with a 15-5 record in the last 20 meetings between the two teams. While the Gators have dominated the series, the Hurricanes have won the last two meetings in 2014 and 2015, leaving White 0-1 as a coach against Miami. The Gators look to end the losing streak in their final game of the AdvoCare Invitational.
